Title: Battle Scars: For King and Country
(book 2 of a series)
Current word count: @39,000 words
Last week, I wrote the first of many scenes that will take place in Nottingham in the years 1193-1194. The scene features one of my important secondary characters, Robin du Chinon (later changed to du Louviers), aka Robert Carpenter. In previous posts, I slipped the name “Robin,” and if you had read the original sparse book blurb, you would know that the series introduces my own version of the Robin Hood legend. Does Robin become the famous Hood of the legend? Hm…
Writing Robin has been one of the joys of this sequel and of Book 1, Battle Scars: Men of the Cross¹. In the coming months, I’ll tell you a bit more about my Robin and other characters from the legend who loom large in the lives of main characters Henry de Grey & Stephan l’Aigle. But today, you get pictures of the location of the scene that features Robin. I took these photos in 2010 when I spent 3 weeks in Nottingham.
Robin (not yet Hood) has served King Richard for many years. He works for Queen Eleanor while the king is held captive in Bavaria. Conspiracy, political intrigue, bribery, and murder are afoot. Robin and main characters Henry & Stephan will be right in the middle of it all. Next year, you’ll be able to join Robin at the place that claims to be the oldest inn in England:
YE OLDE TRIP TO JERUSALEM
and the larger version of the one at the head of this post
==========
¹Book 1 is in editors’ hands. I don’t expect to see the editorial comments and begin my revisions until late October/early November. I’m aiming for publication by February or March 2014
