if Shakespeare was alive… would he be pulling weeds?

The weeds are beginning to look like trees in my yard. And I had such plans for the backyard. Row after row of day lilies. Flowers blooming from spring through the fall. Or this as my backyard. There were times when the yard looked good…about 6 years ago.

Then the heat did me in. And bad knees. Yeah, I have the knee pad things and a short ‘seat’ to sit on. Neither work well when weeds must be pulled. It’s true: the garden was a good place to get out the frustrations of the job, of life. Nothing like plunging a shovel into the ground and pretending… Oh, let’s not go there.

Then the writing bug kicked back in after several years of producing zero, zip, zilch. Hello, muse. I missed you.

This weekend, writers group friend & twitter acquaintances took part in a 4 day writing marathon. Each person had a goal – write 50K words, meet new daily writing word counts, write 100 pages (about 25K). They kept each other posted and motivated using the hashtag #laboringaway on twitter. I tagged along on Sunday & Monday, reaching a new 1 day record for myself – 3,843 words and over 6K for those 2 days.

Needless to say, no weeding of the garden happened this weekend.

I am left with the memories of a nice looking yard. Good thing I took all those pictures…

Speaking of Shakespeare, here’s a photo I took of his wife’s girlhood home:

If only writing paid enough for one to pay a gardener to keep our yards beautiful 🙂

Let’s dream of that day 🙂

I use the writing excuse for a reason not to do housework. Mind you, you can’t leave a pile of dirty dishes the way you can a bunch of weeds. Write now. Who knows, perhaps you’ll write that best-seller and then you can sit back and watch the paid gardener make your garden beautiful. Failing that, tell everyone your tree-like weeds are part of your grand plan to have a ‘back to nature’ garden.

🙂 I have that one in my list, too.

That is exactly the look I’m going for! You and I think so much alike. 🙂

If Shakespeare were alive today…he’d be scratching and clawing at the top of his coffin. Raji Singh
