My Star Wars short story

“Shades of Gray” comes back to life!

I was thrilled to hear that Del Rey and Lucasfilm, Ltd. agreed to set up an online library to re-publish short stories that had been web exclusives in the old members’ section (Hyperspace) of starwars.com. I thought my 2009 story would never see the light of day again when the starwars.com site was re-vamped and all the original fiction disappeared.

Read “Shades of Gray: from the adventures of Alex Winger” here!

The original online publication included fabulous art work by Cat Staggs. If you go to Cat’s Star Wars page, you can see 4 of the illustrations (top row, beginning with the 4th image of a female Rebel (actually New Republic) pilot.

Did I just get 15 more minutes of fame?  I’ll take it!

This is fantastic! Congratulations…and you had the title first!

      Thanks, Cathy! 🙂

I read your story tonight and I LOVED IT! I could read an entire book about Alex – it was so fascinating! Are there any more stories? Pweese? *flails a little*

Thank you, Jaime! My stories generally take place after Return of the Jedi, so those who aren’t familiar with many of the novels published in the “expanded universe” might get confused by references to people and places they’ve never heard of. If you loved (squee!) the story, then I must have done a decent job! YAY!

The other Alex stories aren’t available legally online, but Alex’s life story has been well documented by the folks at the Wookieepedia. 🙂 Check it out & let me know if you have any questions. I’d love to talk about my old stories (but I might need to reread them first)!

In my quest to collect the Star Wars Adventure Journals I bought a used book of the first release (Feb 1994). As I was browsing through the pages, on page 3 (following the table of content page) there is a handwritten note that reads: “To Carole,Tony & Steve – May the Force be with you” signed Charlene. On Page 83 (A Glimmer of Hope story begings) a handwritten note reads: “March ’94 Hope you enjoy my contribution to the Star Wars universe” signed Charlene

🙂 Congrats on finding a copy of issue 1. I’ll have to have a chat with my nephew…
