Echoes, interviews, and new books to watch for

It has been a crazy ride, but Echoes has been released to the world.

What a journey! When I was in school, decades ago, I wanted to write historical fiction. I was sure that B.A. in U.S. History was going to be put to use in a story centered around the American Revolution. Nope. Didn’t happen. I ended up with knights in the 12th century in Men of the Cross.

Men was my first medieval novel in 2014, but not my first experience as an author. If you’ve been following me a while, you know my publishing career dates back to 1994. “A Glimmer of Hope” was the first of many short stories that appeared in the Star Wars universe where I wrote short stories for a role-playing game magazine. With Echoes of the Storm, I returned to a theme I loved from my Star Wars Alex Winger stories: a group of undercover operatives fighting against an evil empire.

If you aren’t an Amazon fan, you can now find the ebook version of Echoes on other retailer sites like B&N, AppleBooks, and Kobo.

Two New Books to Watch for in September

An ex-Spitfire pilot is dragged into a race against a shadowy government agency to unlock the secrets of the lost empire of Atlantis…

War brought the Harvest. Willa Mae Wallace is a reaper.

I ‘met’ authors Dan Hanks and Chris Panatier via a writers ‘tavern’ on Google Meet just a few months ago. Dan (who lives in the UK) and Chris (in Texas) are two super-creative, supportive individuals whose books sound right up my alley. We gather regularly with a group of SciFi/Fantasy authors and compare notes on dozens of topics like children, pets, writing, publishing, day jobs, COVID19, TV & movies, and – surprise – books!

Head over to Goodreads to check out the great advance reviews for Dan & Chris. Catch Dan reading an excerpt of his novel, and Chris introducing The Phlebotomist. Both books are available for pre-order, and will go live on retail sites on September 8.

MINI INTERVIEWS!
Chris & Dan were kind enough to answer a question or two I posed about their books:

CN: Where did you get the idea for your novels?

DH: Captain Moxley and the Embers of the Empire actually started out as a bit of fan fiction. I walked out of Indiana Jones 4 not really feeling it and decided I’d try to write an Indy movie myself. After nearly 30 years of knowing and loving that character, and those films, I felt I knew the beats off by heart and could pull it off. And after a year of handwriting a script, I think I did a half decent job of it.

Of course, that script couldn’t possibly go anywhere. But I loved the story – I’m a big fan of the idea of the Hall of Records and the empire of Atlantis – so I rewrote it with a new hero in mind. Someone far more world weary and way more reluctant to get involved in treasure seeking, but who has to step up for the sake of family (and the fate of the world, obviously). And so Captain Samantha Moxley was born…

CP: The idea for The Phlebotomist came to me after witnessing two years of the current administration doing things to hurt poor people. It started there and bloomed into something quite monstrous.

CN: What was the most challenging aspect of writing the book?

CP: The Phlebotomist is grounded firmly in blood science. So getting that correct was a major challenge, but also a lot of fun. There were so many amazing facts about blood compatibility, etc., that much of it ended up writing itself.

Both of these books are on my TBR list & should be on yours!

Wow, that’s quite a list of books you have there. Thanks for the inspiration, and do keep writing as well as inspiring other fellow writers in the blogosphere!
