Research notes this week

Mapping out the story locations. (Thank you, google maps.)

I’m still hanging out in the 13th century with Eleanor of Aquitaine and her son John, King of England. This new story features my fictional characters Henry de Grey and Stephan l’Aigle, and takes place earlier than the events of Rogues & Kings.

It’s July 1202 in this short snippet from the WIP:

Eyes narrowed, Eleanor studied the wax seal on the folded parchment he had handed her, and then frowned at the captain. “Where is de Lusignan?” she asked.

The captain stood tall, his empty scabbard brushing the leather of his chausses. “In council with the duke.”

“Likely plotting the division of spoils.” Eleanor rolled her eyes. “Look at this, Sir Aubrey.” She waved the parchment. “The seal on this message is scratched.”

Charlene Newcomb’s passion for historical fiction and Star Wars led to her writing a bit of both. She has multiple short stories in the Star Wars Adventure Journal, published a space opera Echoes of the Storm, and has written medieval historical fiction short stories and five novels: the Battle Scars trilogy, and Tales of Robin Hood.

Download her free medieval short story, A Boy’s Life – about 9 year old Allan A Dale – and dive into 12th century England.
