remembering Dad

Happy Father’s Day to dads everywhere.  This seems a fitting post after my absence from the blogosphere these last few weeks.

My dad has been gone a long time, almost 24 years. I can’t help but think of him every time I sit at the computer, every time I check weather.com, and every time I look at family photos. Dad is conspicuously absent from most of the photos I have. He was the photographer, the man behind the stills and the old 8mm/super 8. We have hundreds of hours of home movies he took; hundreds (thousands?) of stills dating back to the 1940s.  He never owned a video camera; never had a digital camera. But he would’ve devoured the technology. He would’ve loved email and the web. And weather.com? I imagine Dad saw The Weather Channel on cable TV but weather.com wasn’t around yet. Dad had been a weatherman on WSPA-TV in South Carolina for years. He didn’t get to work with a green screen and projected weather maps. He had an actual map. 🙂  Here’s to you, Dad.
