Veterans Day

“…our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty…”

Thank you to the veterans – my Dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends – who preserve those freedoms, which we often take for granted. Bless all veterans who have served or currently serve our country. As a Navy vet, I’m honored to be one of you.

Thank you! HUGS! <3 Several of my relatives and ancestors have been in the military, though the one that really moved me the most was my great-great-great grandfather, who was a Union cavalry soldier in the Civil War. He was a man of mixed-race who chose to fight for a country that didn't truly accept him or his family, and was 51 when he went off to war. The courage and conviction it would've taken to do that is inspiring, and the more I learn about him, the more amazed I am (and the angrier I get that for generations, my family has tried to hide their past in order to fit in and survive, but that's a matter for another time…)

You should write his story! It’s important that he’s not forgotten, even if some of your family has tried to bury that history.
