What you don’t want to know…

I was going to tell you about my growing pile of historical reference materials, but then I read that writers shouldn’t bore folks who read their blog with such mundane things.

You don’t want to hear about my writing process, or my research, including why I spent 3 hours dredging through a handful of books, doing database searches for articles about Queen Berengaria and Queen Joanna…oh. Whoops.

So, you don’t want to know about excuses I use to get out of writing. Or where I came up with the characters Nick or Jack, Anne or Taylor from my upcoming novel Keeping the Family Peace.  Or that I was sitting on a train traveling from Cornwall to Stratford upon Avon when that book title came to me. All right…

I already point you to posts I’ve found interesting – my Thursday walks series. How about something funny from my non-writing life? Funny? Hm. Cooking chicken in a crock pot? Nope. No funnies there. (I bet The Bloggess has some hilarious stories about crock pots or cooking.)

This post has gone on too long. Remind me to write about the time my lovely mom lost her bridge. That one still makes me smile. Another post, another time.

Who says that we don’t want to hear about the research or mundane things or how you came up with this character, etc.? Honestly, I tend to find it fascinating. I recently got the e-book of Coraline, and in the back, there were a couple of scans of Gaiman’s original handwritten pages with little doodles on the side, along with an interview on how he wrote it, how long it took, where he got the inspiration from and so on. It was actually really neat to read and see because it’s a story along with a story…

Also, your home office is AWESOME. Is the entire room Star Wars? 😀

All right! You’re on. At least I know a couple of folks enjoy those topics. 🙂

And yes, the whole room is SW. Here’s a pic before the desk was in there, http://www.flickr.com/photos/kstatelibrarian/2220791901/. There are a few other shots/angles in that photostream.

Like Jaime, I’m always interested to hear about a writer’s research and how they came to be writing what they are writing, so feel free to spill the beans!

Okay, just promise – no yawning. 🙂

Who on earth are Queen Berengaria and Queen Joanna?

Richard the Lionheart’s wife and sister, respectively.
