good reads…

Yes, and Goodreads. Jane Friedman talks about 2 Ways to Make the Most of Goodreads. I’m barely getting started over there and haven’t managed to make it a regular part of  my social media activity, whether daily or even once or twice a week. Writer friends: how are you (or are you) using Goodreads?

Catherine, Caffeinated – don’t you love that blog name? – writes about My New Favorite Twitter Thing: Buffer. I hadn’t heard of this tweet scheduling tool though I knew these things existed. I’m not a heavy-duty tweeter but I like the idea of scheduling rather than tweeting a few things then disappearing for hours (or days) on end. I use Hootsuite to aggregate my twitter accounts and Facebook feeds but I never investigated – until now – it’s scheduling feature. While Buffer looks cool, I’ll give Hootsuite a trial for a while.

JW Manus has had some great posts, here and here, about formatting your e-book for publication. Those are going into the “save” file!

And don’t miss 10 Ways to Know You’re a Writer from Wordbitches.

What have you found out there in the blogosphere this week?

Like any of these social media thingies, Goodreads takes time. I messed with it a bit before this semester hit and think I could like it, but I’m on forced hiatus right now.

I think scheduling tweets is fine for informational tweets. But I think folks should be “live” when tweeting personal tweets. I am always disappointed when I respond to someone’s quip or reflection, and they never reply. Not only that, sometimes you see that same quip/reflection pop up later in the day. They have scheduled it to appear multiple times. That is NOT what making a connection is all about. I generally stop paying any attention to such people.

Very good points re scheduled tweets. Those info tweets (many re-tweets) are the type I’ve placed in the queue so far. It’s a very short queue. 🙂 And you hit the nail on the head about ‘connections’. Talk to me people!

Haha, Wordbitches. I have to visit there just for the name of their site.

I haven’t really done Goodreads. I have an account and joined a group for book fans well before I had a blog or thought anything about platforms and social media for writers, but I haven’t been back since. I need to go read how it is helpful and what you’re supposed to do.

    Thanks for the links!

Thanks for dropping by! Yes, the Wordbitches have some fun posts. Keep us posted on your explorations of Goodreads. I’ll get back there myself one of these days. Sigh.
